Conservative councillors are criticizing the delay in providing more Primary school places. Conservative Education spokesman, Cllr. David Marlow stated, ‘the Council is only now consulting on new school places. The shortage of places was known in early 2006. I have replied supporting the school expansions, complaining about the delay of some 3 years.
The other problem is funding. The overspend on Teddington School of some £12 million would have funded 2 school expansions. The Council now only has Government funding for 1 form of entry at 1 school when more than 8 primary schools will be needed to provide the extra places required.. I am bound to ask why the Libdems have failed to give this issue proper priority and the urgency that was clear some years ago.
